Hi, I JUst wanted to let you know that Plaquenil, and other lupus meds can be rough on your stomach.so in the beginning than long term. My doctor reccomended that I eat 100 calories at least prior to taking Plaquenil and Naproxen. I was prett nauseous the frist 2 weeks on these meds, but over time it diminished. Started taking plaquenil a week ago. All was well until today when I started with slight nausea no appetite dont know if its the plaq. or something else. For those of you who had stomach problems from plaq. when did yours start, how bad did it get and how long did it last? Hope everyone is having a great weekend! I started taking Plaquenil 4 weeks ago for non specific autoimmune disease as indicated by ANA. Symptoms were low grade temperature off and on for a year, joint pain and fatigue. I have already felt some relief. Some nauseau at first but less problem with fever and joint pain. But, now I have started having stomach cramps and diarrhea. I understand these may go away. Is there anything I can.

Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine.

If you don't have to, don't stop your plaquenil. I stopped taking the plaquenil the beginning of December. It doesn't agree with my stomach I take it with meals too. And since I hadn't had a miraculous recovery the 6 months I'd been on it, I didn't think there was any harm in stopping it.
