Primary cicatricial alopecia is challenging, both clinically and therapeutically, and has no known cause. Im experienceing the same thing as Allie. I have been on Plaquenil for a year and a half and im losing hair like crazy as well. My Rheumatologist just recently switched my med to Prednisone but i cant really see any changes yet. I believe the Plaquenil does have some kind of affect with hair loss. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a slow acting drug. It can take up to 8 weeks or more before the medication really starts to have an effect and actually help an individual using the drug. Because hydroxychloroquine is so delayed in its onset, I usually give it 4-6 months before really deciding if it is working. and sometimes even longer.

Insomnia and Plaquenil? - Sjogren's World Plaquenil gave me anxiety and I could not sleep while taking a higher dose. You should probably call your doctor and tell them. Maybe they can adjust your milligrams to a lower dose to see if that is what is causing the insomnia. It is no fun not to be able to sleep, i hope you get this figured out and get some rest -
